Composition and function of automobile chassis

The vehicle chassis is composed of transmission system, driving system, steering system and braking system.

The role of the chassis is to support and install the automobile engine and its components and assemblies, form the overall shape of the automobile, and accept the power of the engine, so that the automobile can produce motion and ensure the normal running of the automobile.

1. Transmission system

The transmission system consists of clutch, transmission, drive shaft, universal joint, main reducer, differential and drive shaft.

The function of the automobile transmission system is to transfer the power from the engine to the driving wheels to drive the car.

The transmission system has the functions of deceleration, transmission, reversing, interrupting power, wheel differential and shaft differential, etc. It works with the engine to ensure the normal running of the car under various working conditions.

2. Driving system

The driving system is generally composed of frame, axle, wheel and suspension.

The function of the vehicle driving system is to convert the torque from the driveline into the traction force on the ground. Bear all kinds of external forces and torques on the car; Reduce vibration, mitigate impact, ensure the car normal, smooth running.

3. Steering system

Automobile steering system is composed of steering wheel, steering column, steering machine, steering power mechanism and so on.

The function of the automobile steering system is to ensure that the car can run in a straight line or turn according to the driver's will. The steering system of automobile can be divided into mechanical steering system and power steering system according to the different steering energy.

4. Braking system

The role of the car brake system is to slow the car down or stop the car for a short distance as needed. Automobile brake system is generally composed of service brake, parking brake and so on. Service brake can be divided into disc brake and drum brake. At present, disc brake is commonly used in automobile braking system.

(1) Service brake device Service brake device is a brake device controlled by the driver's feet, which is often used in driving. The brakes are mounted on all the wheels of the car.

(2) Parking brake device Parking brake device is the driver with the hand control of the brake device, mainly used to prevent the car after parking slippery. When the service brake device fails or starts on the ramp, the parking brake device can be used temporarily. In the ordinary automobile (sedan), the braking system is only equipped with the service brake device and the parking brake device.
